In keeping with their time honoured armour scale of 1/76, Airfix have produced an absolutely delightful resin ‘war ruined’ building of a European brewery! I just wonder why the powers that be in www.scaleplasticandrail.com decided to pass this one to me for review? I trust there was nothing untoward in their devious minds!
Firstly, I have to congratulate Airfix on the superb packaging and box art for this product and I am confident that with the worst parcel handlers in the World, nothing would affect the contents in this box. Thick Styrofoam surrounds the precious resin building and I was pleasantly surprised by the weight – this is one substantial diorama product and will certainly please the many fans of 1/76 or indeed 1/72 armour as this would not go amiss in the slightly larger scale.
The resin is very smooth and the modelling is beautiful with just the application of colour to bring this to life. Airfix have even gone to the trouble of depicting which colours with Humbrol references to use and where. This is a bonus for someone like me who is afflicted with colour blindness.
I particularly liked the random appearance of ‘bricks’ under the broken rendering and the depiction of exposed broken brickwork on the collapsed walls. If the modeller wishes, he can add Photo Etched window frames with or without ‘glass’ as both are presented with the kit although for glass read acetate!
I like this Mr Airfix – I like it a lot, and at £17.99 it doesn’t break the bank. One thing is f9or sure, it will certainly enhance a few dioramas at shows in the coming months.
Any chance of one in 1/35 please?
