Earlier this year I reviewed Eduard's first attempt to enter into the world of diorama horticulture when I examined their 1/35 fern leaf set. The set was very well produced but, as I commented at the time, the correct use of the plants (which are communal growers) would prove to be extremely expensive for the modeller. What was needed, though I did not mention it, was equally good quality etched sets of plants which grew singly or in small numbers.
Someone must have read my mind at Eduard, because we now have 3 new releases which fit this profile perfectly and which will prove much more affordable to the 1/35 scale diorama builder.
Set 36152: Wild Flowers and Butterflies

The first set is of a wide variety of European wild plants; amongst the contents are foxgloves, dandelions and buttercups. Each requires construction from one or more etched part. As with all of these plants, the etch is coloured on both sides. Comparison with photographs suggest that Eduard have been much better with the colours in this set in comparison with the ferns. The butterflies provided are not of the same standard, being somewhat indistinct and unidentifiable.
Set 36168: Sunflowers

This is simply superb as a diorama set; 7 fantastically produced sunflowers, again made from several pieces, which will add so much to a diorama involving the wall of a house or a garden. I cannot recommend this set too highly.
Set 36170: Grapevines

Another excellent set, of use again against a house or in a garden diorama (particularly in Southern France or Italy, where vines are often grown as climbing plants against buildings). My only query with this set is the gravity effect - the grapes will have to be very carefully bent into position so that they hang naturally.
So what do we think?
A high quality collection of 1/35th scale plants that will appear in many a diorama; the sunflower set is of the very highest quality.
