MiniArt have sent us one of their new modular parts for Diorama building this month – the "Building Stair" kit – this is an extension of their original 35525 kit which is only one story high, this is two stories – with a threshold of Plastic made to look like metal grille in the middle. The kit is eleven sprues with one hundred and thirty two parts of grey styrene. The parts themselves have only a little plash on the iron girders which hold up the stairs, there are some injection plugs on the inside of the plastic RSJ's but this is not really visible as they are underneath the metal grilles, so the plastic is well moulded and easy to make without excess clean up.

There is a lot of repetitive work her but rewarding as it all foes together as I'll show you. Instructions come on the back of the box in simple black and white and are easy to follow, but there is an excellent picture on MiniArt's website HERE that I found to be just as much help in construction as the instructions themselves.

Yo check out my Grille!

I thought the best way to look at this was to build them up pretty quick for you and show you how easy they are to put together. We start with the metal grille floor which is glued on to three RSJ's – quite simple, and then a second set is constructed for the middle floor threshold. The top level has a handrail attached simply and then I make my way down the stairs with the construction of two sets of stairs. Careful reading of the instructions so that you make one set with eight treads and one with seven are to be followed – as is me looking a few times to for no particular reason cut a part off the treads to make them narrower. In this instance check twice cut and glue once! The stairs though go together quite easily once you double check what you are doing.

You have to let the stairs "set" at the right angle or you are sunk!

Next the middle level two platforms go together, they are an easy job but again the tolerances of the angled stairs on this kit mean you must check your pics on the back instructions before committing. The bottom steps go together very easily and mirror the top steps, except there is two handrails instead of one. These actually have a little locating bits on the handrails and a recess in the stairs to insert them and give some support. If you cut them short the rails won't be half as strong so look hard and cut once!

The hardest part of this kit is gluing the big bits together – the smaller bits are easy as they can be rested against something else but the larger bits cannot be so easily melded together… Try to plan the build so that you have heaps of things around to keep your kit together.

All in all it took an easy afternoon without too much cleaning up of the sprue parts and with some smart painting this kit is a good addition to your diorama. If you want a ready-made wall to add to the stairs MiniArt do the 35544 FACTORY CORNER  w/ STEPS kit which is even better than this one.

So what do we think?

MiniArt have given us the option for a few different sets of stairs and this one is their best yet. If you are careful with reading the instructions and follow them you will come out with a nice set of treads for your factory wall diorama

Again well done MiniArt – they keep on impressing me
