Last year, we reviewed the excellent, newly-tooled Revell 1:32 Ar 196A-3, and since then, Eduard several other companies have invested their time and effort into helping the modeller make a masterpiece from this kit. It's taken some time, but now Aires have finally released a resin exhaust replacement for this, in their popular Quickboost range.
Packaged into the familiar, bright Quickboost re-sealable wallet, this set consists of just two parts of medium grey resin, cast onto a single block, and protected from damage by resin walls projecting from two opposing ends of the casting block. The parts themselves are fastened to the casting block with thin webs of resin, and some careful trimming will be required to remove the thin resin web from in between the two exhaust gas pipes on one of the parts. No problem should be presented as the resin itself is supple and easy to trim. Just make sure you use a nice new blade. I recommend Swann-Morton surgical blades for most work, but especially in getting the most out of resin upgrade parts such as this.
The exhaust orifices are beautifully rendered with thin walls and hollow openings. These are direct part replacements for the kit parts and will present no problem to a modeller of average ability to kit. The casting itself is flawless and extremely delicate in its appearance.
So what do we think?
Again, this is another superb upgrade set and one that I strongly consider that you purchase if you have one of these in your build schedule. As soon as I begin mine, I'll catalogue the build on our forums, and use this part. I'm sure this is probably the last piece in the Arado Ar 196 upgrade jigsaw for the Revell kit now, and it's one that you should definitely buy.
