I have become quite a fan of Radu’s etch metal tools over the last 18 months, and just when you think you have been catered for in every way, along comes a new set that you’ll shortly find that you ‘can’t live without’.
Enter the ‘Micro Saw’ set. These small saws of varying shapes, angles and profiles come on a single fret of etched stainless steel, and in total, your €6.50 gets you an amazing SIX SAWS! As usual, you need to mount these in an X-Acto type modelling handle, as is the ‘norm’ with Radu’s etch tool sets. I really wish Radu would begin to sell some of these handles as I always want to mount my favourite tool permanently. That’s not a criticism, but simply that I wish I had a handle for so many of these fine creations!
This saw set includes:
- 2 x straight saws
- 2 x tapered saws
- 2 x curved saws
The saws should be removed from the frets by the means of a good quality snipper tool. Don’t forget, this is stainless steel and tougher than brass. Once removed, these saws can be used, not just for regular cutting of both resin and plastic, but will now allow you to cut into quite awkward areas which wouldn’t normally be easy with a saw. As Radu states on his site, the tapered saws can be used as piercing saws which is so useful for those of us that like a little scratch-building or conversion work. Those cuts which we all attempt with a knife due to their awkwardness, can now be done simply and far more safely with these saws.
Please don’t ‘baulk’ at these over regular saw blades either. I have been using other saws from Radu for well over a year now, and they show no sign of blunting whatsoever, so I can vouch for the longevity of these tools, and therefore their total value for money.
You want saws? Look nowhere else.
So what do we think?
In my opinion, there is simply no better a model saw available. You really will have a saw for every cutting job you’ll come across. They last a long time, and work out at just over a €uro each. Excellent value for money and very highly recommended.
